Properties for managing users

For global administrators, several managed properties are available to assist in managing your users.

The user management properties fall under the following categories:

Password security settings

Property Description

DefaultPasswordExpiration

The number of days before a user is forced to change their password.

DefaultPasswordReset

Specifies the default setting for what type of password changing restrictions are required when creating a new user (N for never needs changing, X for user cannot change password, M for user must change password the next time they login, and T for the user must change their password after DefaultPasswordReset days. If set to M, the setting will switch to either T or N when the student next logs in depending on whether DefaultPasswordReset is greater than zero days).
EncryptExistingPasswords When this is set to 1, passwords on existing users will be encrypted immediately.
MinPasswordLength Set the Password length. Default is 4 characters.
PasswordStrength

Set the password restrictions.

  • No restrictions

  • Password must contain both an alpha and a numeric

  • Password must contain an alpha, numeric, and one special character from the following list: ! @ # $ % ^ & *

  • Password is case-sensitive and must contain special character restrictions

UseEncryptedPasswords Accepts encrypted passwords during Import. Default is 0 (not set)

When a user is forced to change their password, the Password Change Required dialog will display.

If the user clicks Close without changing password, they will be directed to the Must Change Password to Continue dialog.

AllowCoursePreview

Specifies whether to allow students the ability to preview courses.

Yes = Allow previewing

No = Prevent previewing (default)

AllowMultipleSessions

Specifies whether to allow students to log-in to CourseMill multiple times simultaneously

Yes = Allow multiple log-ins

No = Prevent multiple log-ins (default)

AllowStudentToDownloadReports

Specifies whether to allow students to download their online transcript report.

Yes (default) or No

AllowUserToUpdateAdditionalInfo

Specifies whether a student can update the eight additional personal information columns on the student record using Edit Profile.

Yes (default) or No

AllowUserToUpdatePersonalInfo

Specifies whether a user can modify their demographic information. This flag is useful when importing user data and you want to restrict the ability to modify this information.

AllowUserToUpdateSubOrgInfo

Specify whether users can update their suborg information.

RequirePersonalInfo

Specifies what level of demographic information is required during registration and user setup.

Specifies whether a user can change his or her password more than once a day.

Yes = disallows a user to change password more than once a day

No (default) = allows a user to change password more than once a day

Log in/out options

Property Description
LoginsDisabled

Specifies an indicator as to whether the system will allow students to login.  Yes or No. You can use this when you are performing maintenance and you do not want anyone logging in for a certain time period. This is set to Yes when the administrator clicks the Restrict Access button.

LoginsDisabledMsg Specifies the message displayed to students if they attempt to login when LoginsDisabled is set to Yes.  A sample message could be “The system is currently unavailable due to planned maintenance.  Please check back later.
LoginTimeout

Specifies the length of inactive time in minutes before a user is logged out automatically by the system. 

Make sure the time is less than your server's defined inactivity timeout.  Also consider the length of your courses so the connection doesn’t time out before the SCORM data can be passed.  Default is set to 30 minutes.
MaxAttemptsBeforeSuspend

Specifies the maximum number of times an incorrect password will be allowed to be entered before suspending an account. (-1 or 0 means do not suspend the account, anything greater than 0 represents the number of times a user can type in an incorrect password.

MaxAttemptsTimeout

Specifies the amount of time in which MaxAttemptsBeforeSuspend invalid login attempts will cause an account to be suspended. Also, the period of time that a suspended account will remain suspended.  The default is 5 minutes.

MinIDLength

Specifies the minimum length of a user ID.  The default is 4.

OnLogoutGoTo Specifies where to redirect users after they log out or are forced off the system.  Index.jsp is the default.
