Bulk-restoring archived users

You can bulk-restore archived users based on information provided in a tab-delimited file. After you create the file, you can run an error check to verify that the file is properly formatted.

Users are restored to the state - active or inactive - when they were initially archived.

When a user is restored that is in a sub-org that is tied to a course or curriculum which automatically enrolls a student, the student will not be automatically enrolled in a course at the time they are restored. Instead, they will get enrolled when the evening batch job runs.

The tab-delimited file must conform to the following specifications:

Column name

Description

ID or StudentID

The student's user ID

LastName

The student's last name

OrgID

The organization ID (optional)

CurrID, CourseID, or SessionID

The curriculum ID, course ID, or the session ID. (To include the session ID with the course ID, add another column and include the session ID.)

To process the tab-delimited file:

  1. Open the Users side-tab and click Manage Users.

  2. Use the fields in the search window above the results table to filter the list of users. Use the fields as follows:

    Search Field Description
    Org ID Org ID with which an organization was added.
    User ID

    Enter any combination of letters and numbers to search for users that contain that combination in the user ID.

    First Name Enter any combination of letters and numbers to search for users that contain that combination in the first name.
    Last Name Enter any combination of letters and numbers to search for users that contain that combination in the last name.
    Include Inactive Enable this check box to include inactive users in the results.
    Email Enter any combination of letters and numbers to search for users that contain that combination in the last name.
    More Options Click this to display more search criteria items if sub-org settings have been defined, such as Region, Department, Location, and Job Title.
  3. Click Batch User Data.

  4. On the Batch User Data window, specify the org ID, select Bulk Restore Users in the Batch Operation field, and click Browse to navigate and select the file. To run an error check on the tab-delimited file before processing it, select Error Check Data in the Process Data field. To process the file, select Error Check Data in the Process Data field.

  5. Click Process.

Users identified in the file are restored.
